STORAGE & MOVING TIPS

  • Plan your storage space. Place items you'll need to get to often in the front of the storage space. Allow space to walk between stored items.
  • Label boxes by number and keep an inventory list in a safe place at home.
  • Use uniform size boxes for easy stacking. Avoid putting too much in each box - boxes should not weigh over 30 pounds.
  • Dishes and glasses should be wrapped in packing paper, packed in boxes and stacked on top.
  • Use packing paper when possible - newspaper ink can smudge off on items.
  • Furniture with drawers can be utilized as storage places for knick knacks, china, silverware and small items. Wrap in tablecloths, towels or blankets to prevent breakage.
  • Larger appliances make excellent packing cases for blankets, towels, tablecloths, clothes and stuffed toys.
  • Shovels, hoes, rakes and hoses can be stored together in empty trash cans. Stack extra cans inside one another.
  • Sofas and loveseats can be stored on end to save floor space. Always place a protective waterproof cover under the end on the floor. Cushions should be wrapped in plastic and placed on top.
  • Cover stuffed furniture with dust covers to protect against dust.
  • Tables with removable legs should be taken apart to save space.
  • If you stand mattresses on end, be sure to prop them up so they stand straight. Otherwise, they may get bent out of shape and become lumpy.

Caution: It is against the law to store materials that are hazardous or combustible such as gasoline, solvents, paint, etc. Drain all remaining gasoline from lawn mowers, power tools, boats, 4-wheelers, etc., before storing them.
